Digital Locker is now available in India. It is a facility which provides cloud platform to its users and enable them to submit legal documents and IDs such as aahdar, driving license, voting card, pan card in digital format.
It thus relives the user to carry documents and ID’s with them in physical form and also reduces the risk of physical lost and damage.
- 10 MB of free space. This is proposed to be increased to 1GB. Currently maximum file size for one file is 1 MB.Only pdf, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp and gif fie types are allowed.
- E-sign online documents.
- Sharing of e-documents online with any registered requester agency or department.
- List of issuers which have issued e-documents to residents and list of requesters which have accessed resident’s documents.
Facility to upload e-documents in a standard XML format in the digital locker repository or repositories and push e-document URI in the resident’s digital locker.

How to use
To sign up for digital locker you need to have an aadhaar number and a mobile number registered with Aadhaar. One Time Password (OTP) is sent to the registered mobile number and user has to enter it to sing up. OTP is valid for 30 min only.
The documents which are uploaded by user and by different departments can be seen by login in to the account.
A document can be shared by clicking on Share button against a document. A pop up will open where you have to enter the email of the recipient. An email will be sent to the recipient with the URI (Uniform Resource Indicator) link of the document. The recipient can access the document using such URI.
